Case 3: Widowhood

The fictional Detanele family is a 75-year-old White great-grandmother who recently became a widow. Her husband of 65 years died following a long illness. Almost all of their life savings were used up for his care, save a modest life insurance policy that will cover funeral and burial costs. None of her other family members are able to help her financially nor have her live with them because of her mobility issues; her cognitive ability is fine. She lives alone in a modest home in a small town in Arkansas.

You have hired by your employer to help her determine if she’s eligible for Medicaid and where she might continue to live Arkansas. Monthly, she receives social security and veteran’s benefits and because of her age has Medicare. What other factors must be taken into consideration? What other resources might she be eligible for?

In the requested written report, discuss these factors and other possible services and resources, decide about her Medicaid eligibility, include a comparative analysis with a chart, and be sure to include highly credible and trusted sources of information/references.
