Accessible/Accessibility

The quality of being easy to approach, reach, enter, or use. Physical space, digital content, information, or services designed in such a way that they are available and usable by a wide range of individuals, including those with barriers, disabilities, or atypical needs.

Augmented reality

The incorporation of computer-generated content into a real-world environment highlighted by interactivity.

Avant-garde

Of or related to experimental, unusual, or intentionally boundary breaching art and expression.

Backstitch

A stitch that is created by pulling thread through fabric a distance (1/4 inch or so) from the start at the point where the stitch will end, then sending the needle through the point where the stitch is meant to start to create a backloop.

Blocking

An organized plan of placement for individuals in a performance.

Call-to-Action

A concise and easy to follow directive such as "buy tickets now" or "follow to find out more" that encourages your audience to engage.

Choreography

A sequence of steps and positions performed, especially as part of a group or demonstration.

Drape

How a fabric lays while worn or held up.

Etiquette

A set of standards for behavior and communication style.

Finish

The inside or edge of fabric as part of a garment that prepares it for wear, such as binding tape or a finishing stitch technique.

Fit

How well a garment sits against the body as intended.

Hand

How a fabric feels when touched.

Hem

The bottom edge of a garment, especially for dresses, skirts, and pants.

Notion

A button, embellishment, closure, or decorative element sewn to the garment.

Pattern

The paper blueprint used for cutting fabric and assembling the garment.

Quality Assurance

A system of standards that prevent low-quality content or products from being released and improve overall processes to increase overall output quality

Quality Control

The process of filtering through products or content that is being released to uncover and take down inaccurate, faulty, or low-quality material.

Seam

The area of a garment that contains pieces connected by thread; holds pieces of fabric together using various stitches and techniques.

Slip stitch

A stitch created by tunneling the needle through folded portions of the fabric, catching a thread on the attachment location every 1/4 inch or so.

Stitch

A single loop of thread connecting two or more pieces of fabric OR the act of attaching fabric with thread.

Synergize

Combining efforts to generate a greater effect or impact than possible on an individual level

Virtual reality

The immersive, computer-generated simulation of an interactive environment that allows a user to perceive they are physical present in a digital space.

Whip stitch

The quickest and easiest stitch. This is created by holding wrong sides together and pulling the needle through both pieces (along the same side) every 1/4 inch or so. The 'height' of a whip stitch should be about the same size as the distance between stitches.
