Participatory Learning and Design
Participatory learning, as we discussed, is helpful for many reasons! This extends to participatory design, as it also emphasizes the active involvement of learners. Participatory learning concepts focus on engaging students actively in the learning process, promoting deeper understanding and retention of knowledge. Participatory design tasks learners with contributing to the creation and design of educational content. Some models that use this include flipped classrooms, jigsaw method, and project-based learning. The importance of learner involvement in the design process can be facilitated by H5P like within ENCLOTHE, where students’ input directly influences the development of educational materials, ensuring relevance and engagement.
Create Experiences: Building H5P
Creating experiences with H5P can involve incorporating student submissions (like ENCLOTHE) or with hands-on activity creation. Remixing existing H5P is a start, but building it from the ground up can be just as easy!
By building your own H5P, the content is highly customized to YOUR students, increasing engagement and interest in your content!
Now You Try!
Now, it’s your turn to create H5P content. As educators, we know the best learning comes from doing, and the second best is by watching someone else do it[1]!
Purpose: The purpose of this is to show you how easy and fun H5P can be!
Task:
- We’re going to take volunteers to create H5P.
- Then, we’ll do a Think/Pair/Share exercise to discuss the H5P activity, its creation process, and its potential application in your classrooms.
Criteria for success: How well do you understand H5P? How you can use H5P to enhance student engagement and success?
