Unit 1 Conclusion
Collette Bliss
Now that you’ve completed this unit, you should know what a discourse community is, have a good sense of your own discourse communities, and be able to propose two different discourse communities that you would like to study, ultimately selecting one to explore for the rest of the semester.
Looking forward, we’ll begin to apply this knowledge, learning how to deepen our understanding of communities and how to advocate for them. So far, we’ve been mostly working with concepts and texts, but in the next unit we’ll get into digital and multi-modal genres for presenting information.
As we close out, begin to reflect on your experience in Unit 1. What have you learned? Has anything surprised you or changed the way you see things? Why did you choose the community that you chose? What are you hoping to get out of the next units? What do you hope to get out of this course?
